Training for Retailers and Their Employees

The Taking risks is no game training is designed exclusively for owners and employees of bars, brasseries and taverns in the video lottery network.

To take the online training, participants must first register via the retailers portal and create an account using a registration form. They will be asked to provide personal information, along with the VLT permit number of the establishment where the applicant works. A username and password will be provided for a certain period, allowing the participant to access the portal at any time and to take the training at his or her own pace.

All retailers must register if they have not yet taken the training. They may register an employee themselves if they have all of the participant's' personal information requested on the registration form.

Important: To receive the certificate attesting that he or she has completed the training, each participant must fill out the evaluation questionnaire.

Developed in collaboration with the Fondation Mise sur toi and Université Laval's Centre québécois d'excellence pour la prévention et le traitement du jeu, the Taking risks is no game training program allows retailers and their staff to broaden their understanding of the process for helping compulsive gamblers, without assuming the role of professionals in this area. The program is part of the ongoing efforts to raise awareness of compulsive gambling, first introduced in 2001-2002.

Since the program was launched in 2006, more than 13,000 bar owners and employees have completed this training. The Taking risks is no game training is now offered online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in both English and French. The online content is the same as that provided in classroom settings, eliminating the need for travel.

The training is an integral part of the commitments undertaken by owners and employees pursuant to the Code of Responsible Commercialization. At least one person who has completed the Taking risks is no game training must be present in each establishment at all times. A certificate is issued to all participants who have taken the training.
