Wagers and Wins

A reimbursement coupon is automatically issued when the number of credits accumulated reaches or exceeds a value of $500. Depending on the particular game, wager amounts can vary from $0.05 to $2.50.

Payout Rate

The payout rate is set at approximately 92% by the SLVQ and is considerably higher than the initial rate prescribed by the RACJ, which was equal to or higher than 83%. In other words, for each $1.00 wagered, the player will win an average of $0.92. This average is attained after millions of games played and takes chance, the multiplicity of games, and the variety of prizes and possible combinations into account.

The Gaming Equipment Department of the Ministry of Public Security’s Laboratory of Forensic Sciences and Forensic Pathology is charged with verifying and attesting to the random character and payout rate of all the games available on VLTs.

Difference Between Payout Rate and Cashout Rate

The payout rate and cashout rate are two distinct elements that should not be confused with one another. The payout rate is determined by electronic regulation of the VLTs and is subject to verification by the Ministry of Public Security’s Laboratory of Forensic Sciences and Forensic Pathology. For its part, the cashout rate is not a set value and cannot be programmed. In large part, the cashout rate depends on the player’s behaviour and his decision to either keep playing or claim his winnings.

For example, in the case of a player who deposits $1.00 into a terminal:

  • If the player wagers $1.00, he will win an average of 92% (established payout rate) of that amount, or $0.92. If the player decides to cash out that amount, his cashout rate is 92% ($0.92 on $1.00).
  • If the player does not cash out that amount but decides to play again, he will again win an average of 92% (established payout rate) of that amount, or $0.85. If the player decides to cash out the amount, the cashout rate is 85% ($0.85 on $1.00). This cashout rate does not, however, change the terminal’s payout rate (92%).
  • If the player does not cash out the amount but decides to play again, he will once again win an average of 92% (established payout rate) of that amount, or $0.78. If the player decides to cash out that amount, his cashout rate is then 78% ($0.78 on $1.00). This cashout rate does not, however, change the terminal’s payout rate (92%).
  • And so on...
