Claiming a Prize — Are you a lottery winner?

Claiming a Prize

Checking your tickets

The ticket claim period is one year from the draw date printed on the ticket or, for scratch tickets, one year from the product launch date. Tickets can be checked by retailers or by yourself using the mobile app or the self-service ticket checker located at all Loto-Québec retailer sites.

Confirming Prizes

A winning ticket must be confirmed by means of its verification number, failing which no prize will be payable. Therefore, in order to claim a prize, you must always present your ticket.

A ticket that is illegible, mutilated, changed, altered, improperly cut, not clearly printed, incomplete, or which is erroneously printed or otherwise defective, will be deemed invalid unless Loto-Québec ascertains, by means of the verification number, that the ticket does in fact entitle its bearer to the prize being claimed.

Where and How to Claim a Prize

Loto-Québec attaches the utmost importance to the integrity of its operations and public trust. Claim procedures support that protection.

You may claim your prize:

By mail

Loto-Québec
C.P. 7777, Stn. Centre-ville
Montréal, QC  H3C 4L4

Many winners claim their prizes by mail without problem by following these instructions:

1. Be sure to have properly filled out your ticket by indicating:

  • Your first and last names
  • Address (street number and street, avenue or other indication)
  • City, Province
  • Postal code
  • Telephone number (home, work, cell)

Do not scratch anything out or make other unnecessary marks on your ticket, as these may generate additional verifications and extend the time required for claim processing.

2. Keep a photocopy of the front and back of your winning ticket.

3. Fill out a prize claim form [PDF Format PDF, 112 K - Help] available from retailers.

4. For prizes over $600, attach a photocopy of one of the following valid forms of identification: health insurance card, driver's permit or passport. The expiration date must be visible. You also need to include the duly filled out questionnaire on the claim form.

5. Mail everything, preferably by registered mail, to the address indicated above.*

*The claimant is responsible for all possible risks regarding the mailing of tickets (loss, delays, etc.) and accepts that it may cause a delay in a prize payout, if applicable.

In person

  • At a retailer
For all lottery games, prizes of $600 or less may be claimed from a retailer.

It is important to verify that the retailer has the necessary cash on hand to pay your prize before validating your ticket. Once the ticket has been validated, you may claim your prize ONLY FROM THAT RETAILER or from Loto-Québec. Be sure that the retailer returns the ticket to you as well as your ticket validation coupon.

  • At Loto-Québec counters (no appointment required)
    Claiming a prize for yourself?
Anyone claiming a prize of $600 or more at the Winner's Payout Section at Loto-Québec's Montréal or Québec City offices must show one of the following valid forms of identification: health insurance card, driver's permit or passport. The expiration date must be visible.

You must also fill out and sign a brief questionnaire. The questionnaire is on the claim form that is available from all Loto-Québec retailers.

Claiming a prize for someone else?
If you are claiming a prize for someone else, you must have with you the following documents:

    • The original ticket, duly filled out on the back; any marks or scratched out content may generate additional verifications and extend the time required for claim processing. Keep a photocopy of the ticket.
    • A photocopy of one of the following valid forms of identification of the person who signed the ticket: health insurance card, driver's permit or passport. The expiration date must be visible.

If the prize is over $600, the questionnaire on the claim form must be filled out by the person who signed the ticket. The claim form is available from all Loto-Québec retailers.

It should be noted that cheques will be made out to the name of the legitimate holder of the ticket and sent by mail.

Claiming a prize for a traditionally-formed group (i.e. not with Formule groupe)?
If you are claiming a prize for a traditionally-formed group (i.e. not with Formule groupe), you must present the following documents:

    • The original ticket, duly filled out on the back. Do not scratch anything out or make other unnecessary marks on your ticket, as this may generate additional verifications and extend the time required for claim processing; Keep a photocopy of the front and back of the winning ticket.
    • A claim form filled out by each member of the group.
    • For prize shares over $600, each member of the group must also provide a photocopy of one of the following valid forms of identification: health insurance card, driver's permit or passport. The expiration date must be visible. Each member must also fill out the questionnaire on the claim form.
    • A group purchase agreement must also be attached to the other documents.

It should be noted that cheques will be made out to each legitimate member of the group and will be sent by mail to any of them who is not present for the claim.

Claiming a prize for a group using Formule groupe?
With Formule groupe, the claim process is the same as for an individual ticket, as each member of the group holds a valid ticket with the number of shares he purchased. He may, therefore, validate his ticket and claim his share of the prize at his convenience, independently of the other group members.
