Les Belles-Soeurs s'exp(l)osent
From June 17 to September 5, 2010

Les Belles-Soeurs: Explosive and Exposed at Espace Création

After four decades, it would be logical to expect that they had settled down. Logical, but incorrect. The explosive women of Les Belles Soeurs are exposing themselves - in all senses of the word - under the watchful eye of René Richard Cyr, at Espace Création, from June 17 to September 5.

Within the framework of Michel Tremblay's words, the Belles Soeurs' story erupts as they offer visitors multiple readings. The status of women everywhere, their emotions and words, are felt in each and every aspect of the exhibition.

Images from the holographic version, translations, posters, photographs, maquettes, costumes and props bring us back to the years when the iconic work was written and presented umpteen times on stage. By assembling the key artifacts of the debut production for the very first time, the exhibition captures the birth, life and rebirth of the "Belles Soeurs" phenomenon.

The world of the play is fully exposed, so visitors can experience the mood and social, political and cultural context in which the characters were born and raised. The exhibition Les Belles-Soeurs s'exp(l)osent proves that there are emotions, issues and actions that transcend time. It shows that a play can change history. In its reflection, we can see how far we have come.
