Mandate

Created in 2002, Loto-Québec subsidiary Casino Mundial is tasked with leveraging Québec’s know-how in designing, implementing and operating casinos and related businesses, and applying it worldwide as a means of generating economic spin-offs for the province.

Background

In late 2005, Casino Mundial was approached by European investment firm Bridgepoint Capital and invited to take part in a lending package aimed at acquiring French concern Moliflor Loisirs, France’s third-largest casino operator and then owner of 21 gaming establishments.

On March 30, 2006, Casino Mundial announced that it had invested some $90 million to acquire a 35% share in Moliflor Loisirs. The other joint shareholders are Bridgepoint Capital (55%) and Moliflor’s management team (10%). In 2007, the company generated revenues of nearly €276 million, an increase of 6.9% over the previous year’s figure. Today, the company operates 20 casinos in France.

In March 2008, Moliflor Loisirs decided to embrace a new business strategy and, along with it, a new name. The company, now called JOA Groupe, plans to make its mark in France’s gaming industry by breaking with tradition and adopting a playful and friendly approach.

Today, the group’s establishments operate a multiple-site loyalty program. In fall 2008, the group will implement a program, inspired by Loto-Québec, aimed at preventing problem gambling.
